Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves says Marcus Rashford has the capabilities to become the future captain of the club - but Paul Scholes is not so sure.
The attacker is the Reds’ top scorer this season and is enjoying the best goalscoring season of his career. Rashford fronted up to the media ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Real Betis following the 7-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.
He called the suggestion that United players had given up at Anfield “nonsense” and hit back at critics with a goal within six minutes against Betis at Old Trafford. Some of the criticism post-Liverpool had centred around Bruno Fernandes with his responsibility as on-field captain being questioned.

Rashford reaffirmed his confidence in the playmaker - who kept the role vs Betis - and hailed his quality, but there has been talk about who will eventually be given the United armband full-time should club skipper Harry Maguire leave.
Scholes says he doesn’t believe Rashford should be considered despite his fantastic season. Speaking to BT Sport, he said: “I don’t really see him as a leader. I think he’s a leader by performance but not quite vocal or as a character as a captain should be.
“One thing we have to say about Rashford is that he’s been brilliant this season. He’s turned his career around in the space of time, in three-quarters of the season.” Hargreaves took a different stance and made comparisons with Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain.
He said: “I think United have a lot of leaders now - De Gea, Casemiro, Varane, Martinez is a natural leader. I think Marcus could be one of those. You look at Kylian Mbappe at 24 he’s the captain of PSG.
“I think he’s [Rashford] not your typical Bryan Robson, [Eric] Cantona, that type, but he’s the star player - he’s been brilliant this season.
“He could have that responsibility and grow into the role. I wouldn’t mind seeing that. He’s produced after coming out of a really difficult phase and he’s obviously the future of this football club.
“I think giving him more responsibility wouldn't be a bad thing, he could grow into it, I think captains are a lot different from what they were when we played.”
