Paul Scholes aims dig at Cristiano Ronaldo after Manchester United departure

Paul Scholes has seemingly criticised Cristiano Ronaldo after Manchester United announced his departure from the club. United confirmed Ronaldo had left the club by mutual agreement, with immediate effect, on Tuesday night.

A statement from the club read: "The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future. Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch."

The decision for Ronaldo to leave the club was made a week after his interview with Piers Morgan was released, in which the 37-year-old said he doesn't respect Erik ten Hag, criticised the Glazers and the club's training facilities, among other claims.

It has been suggested that Ronaldo agreed to the interview to force a move away from Old Trafford and United legend Scholes seems to agree with that theory, as to the background to the news about his departure, he reacted to the player's exit.

Scholes wrote on Instagram: "Mission accomplished.... arsed!."

Ronaldo also criticised former teammates Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney in his interview with Morgan last week. He suggested the players talk about him to become famous, while he insisted they are not his friends, merely his former colleagues.

The forward is currently preparing to represent Portugal at the Qatar World Cup.
