Aliens star Paul Reiser has made a surprising return to the sci-fi franchise in a new Marvel What If…? comic series. The actor, known for his role in Stranger Things, has revisited his character Carter Burke, the despised antagonist from the Alien movie series.
In the original films, the human characters often posed a significant threat alongside the Xenomorph creatures. Burke, in particular, endangered the space crew in Aliens by attempting to bring the deadly entity to Earth. While his fate was left ambiguous in the movie, a deleted scene showed him facing a gruesome demise at the hands of a chest-burster.
Reiser, along with his son and a team of Marvel Comics creators, has crafted a new narrative for Burke in the What If…? series. The actor reflected on the character's potential survival, citing the Xenomorphs' tendency to cocoon victims rather than outright kill them.
The collaborative effort has allowed Reiser to delve deeper into Burke's persona, portraying him as more than just a one-dimensional villain. The comic explores his personal life, including his relationship with his daughter, adding layers to his character.
Reiser expressed excitement at the opportunity to provide input on Burke's actions, a creative freedom he did not have during the filming of Aliens. The actor praised director James Cameron's vision for the movie and acknowledged his own limited role in shaping the character.
Fans of the franchise can now witness Burke's journey in the alternate reality presented in the comic book series. Aliens: What If…? #1 is currently available, with the second issue set to release on April 10.
