Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.
Paul Pogba's second tenure at Old Trafford has been labelled a major disappointment by one of Sir Alex Ferguson's former right-hand men after the Frenchman has failed to make an impact.
As the club looks for their new permanent manager, a former Man City boss has been linked with a move to United amid his desire to return to the Premier League.
And finally, the collapse of Jesse Lingard's potential loan move to Newcastle United has been explained.
Pog-bad
In an interview with The Sun, United's former first-team coach Rene Meulensteen discussed Pogba's time at the club.
Meulensteen said: "I don't know what has gone wrong there. It has been a major disappointment. Maybe because he was in a great Juventus team it was easier to shine but he hasn't been able to lift United."
Our view: Meulensteen was the first-team coach at the club for six years. This guy knows what he's talking about, but let's face it; it doesn't take a genius to work out Pogba's time at the club hasn't been good enough. Two trophies since his big-money move from Juventus, Pogba has been one of the biggest disappointments at United for a while.
Ex-City boss to United?
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand's YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano dropped a significant hint that United could be looking at Roberto Mancini as the next permanent manager.
Romano said: "Let's see what happens with Roberto Mancini. Mancini will be busy with Italy to see what happens with the World Cup qualifying in March, but that could be an option. He is tempted by the Premier League, he wants to come back to the Premier League one day."
Our view: Mancini is a great manager. His success at the Euros last summer highlighted that he could adapt to various situations and come out successfully. He was the man to deliver Man City's first-ever Premier League title back in 2011-12, which is the very reason why he can never be the United boss.
Just look at Everton. They appointed former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, and that didn't exactly turn out to be a wise decision!
Lingard Newcastle debacle
It was reported earlier this week that talks with Newcastle have collapsed regarding the loan move for Lingard. The Telegraph have said that it was because the relegation-fighting club were comfortable paying just under £3m for the loan move. Still, United demanded £12m if Newcastle maintained their Premier League status.
Our view: Initially, the £12m seems a bit excessive for a six-month loan deal. However, if Newcastle were to sign Lingard, he'd almost certainly be enough to keep them in the division, and if they did secure survival, they'd earn a lot more than £12m!
A £12m price seemed fair. United can generate money off him, and Newcastle takes one step closer to survival. Your loss, Newcastle!
