Premier League winner Emmanuel Petit has urged Paul Pogba to leave Manchester United this summer, insisting the midfielder is caught "in two different worlds".
Pogba, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season. The Red Devils are facing a backlash from their squad after offering the World Cup winner a £500,000-a-week contract, which will make him one of the Premier League's best paid players.
Many critics would argue Pogba doesn't deserve that prestigious label. He's failed to make much of an impression during the last six years, winning just two major trophies - the EFL Cup and Europa League - and both of those honours came during the 2016-17 term.
Pogba has scored 29 goals and produced 38 assists during his second spell at Old Trafford, yet a lot more was expected of him when United paid Juventus £89million to make him the most expensive player in history in August 2016. Neymar's £200million from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain 12 months later smashed that record.
The United squad do not think Pogba is worthy of a huge pay increase due to his lack of game time and criticisms of the club. The Frenchman hasn't played at least 30 games in a Premier League campaign since 2018-19.
"Some of the players think it’s out of order he could be getting twice as much as they’re when he hardly starts a game and talks about leaving all the time," a source told Mirror Football .

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Real Madrid are all thought to be interested in signing Pogba. Although he would command a big signing-on fee due to being a free agent, it's unlikely he would receive a £500,000-a-week offer anywhere but United.
Erik ten Hag, who is expected to be appointed United's new manager shortly, is set to have the final say on United's transfer policy. Yet this will only happen once the appointment is completed, meaning Pogba could sign the huge offer before Ten Hag arrives.
With Pogba's current deal nearly up, Petit believes it's time for both parties to move on. "Paul Pogba should not stay at Manchester United beyond this summer," Petit, who played for Chelsea and Arsenal, told bookmakers.co.uk. "It is time for him to leave the club.
"His body language tells you the story that he is not happy there at all. He is not the only one by the way, there is so many frustrated players at the club! I watched the game they had with Everton. Come on! This is supposed to be Manchester United.
"You have such responsibility when you play for a great team, and they are not the club I used to play against. I believe Pogba should leave the club this summer because his time has run out over there. It's time for him to find a new motivation, something different because the current environment at Manchester United is not good at all for the players.
“If you asked this question to the entire dressing room, I'm sure that half of them would actually want to leave... there are no positive vibes, they are struggling on and off the pitch. It's two different worlds."
