Assailant breaks into Nancy Pelosi’s home, attacks husband Paul Pelosi
The ex-partner of David DePape, the suspect who allegedly attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul with a hammer, described the man she raised two sons with as “mentally ill for a long time”, according to ABC 7.
Gypsy Taub, who called the news station from the Californian Institution for Women on Friday evening, described an incident from when they were together during which he disappeared for a year.
“He came back in very bad shape. He thought he was Jesus. He was constantly paranoid, thinking people were after him,” said Taub, who separated from DePape seven years ago.
Elsewhere, Twitter's new boss Elon Musk was severely criticised and forced to delete a baseless conspiracy theory about the attack, where he tweeted “there is a tiny possibility there might be more to this story than meets the eye”.
He shared a link to an article from the far-right Santa Monica Observer. The article claimed, without providing evidence, that Mr Pelosi was drunk at the time of the assault and “in a dispute with a male prostitute".
Ms Pelosi broke her silence over the weekend and said that her family is “heartbroken and traumatized” by the violence.
