Paul O'Grady fans grab tissues after poignant ITV Love of Dogs tribute

A message before a special episode of Paul O'Grady's Love of Dogs began on Wednesday had many viewers watching at home in tears.

In light of Paul O'Grady's death ITV have made a number of changes to their TV schedule, with a number of programmes replaced with broadcasts of Paul O'Grady's For the Love of Dogs.

On Wednesday, The Chase was replaced with POGDOGs, and as the show got underway, an ITV announcer said: "First seen on screen as Lily Savage we've a tribute now to Paul O'Grady.

"This show from last Christmas illustrates his close relationship with both animals and people, and his distinctive humour on the show. Filmed when the Queen Consort was still the Duchess of Cambridge, here's Paul O'Grady for the Love of Dogs, a Royal Special".

Reacting to the announcement on Twitter, many fans were clearly emotional. Stephanie said: "Got my tissues ready", while Kyle said: "How emotional", and Scott said: "I don't know if I can watch, such sad news."

Ashley said: "Oh he really was a sweetheart wasn't he? We lost a great one". Allie said: "Just a reminder of this wonderful human being and the work he did for animals".
