Paul O'Grady comes home from tour to 'awful news'

Paul O'Grady returned home after being on tour to some very sad news.

The TV and radio star is currently travelling up and down the country as he plays Miss Hannigan in the touring stage version of Annie. But after a week in Newcastle he was hit with the news that one of his beloved animals had died while he was away.

The 67-year-old star, from Birkenhead, posted to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news. He shared a clip of his pet pig, Tom Tom, as he explained what had happened.

Paul wrote: "Got back from a week in Newcastle playing Miss Hannigan in Annie to find that Tom Tom, one of my pigs had been put to sleep. I knew it was coming as he’d been diagnosed with a tumour but even so it’s awful when you lose a pet.

"He was the cheekiest of the gang and one of the other pigs who was obviously very fond of him is now depressed and gone into mourning and there’s those who say that animals don’t have feelings."

He added that he was still enjoying his work despite the tragedy as he wrote: "On a lighter note I’m thoroughly enjoying playing Hannigan again after so long especially with a truly amazing and lovely cast. Next stop Edinburgh."

Fans rushed to support the star in the comments. Susan said: "Sorry to hear your sad news, losing a pet is like losing a member of your family."

Gaby said: "Oh no. Paul I’m so so sorry. Sending you massive hugs and so much love my darling." Meanwhile, another Instagram user said: "Aww, sad news Paul. Nice to hear you’re enjoying the stage again. Lovely to read another post from you too. Seems a long time since you last posted or long time since I’ve seen anything."
