Paul Mescal has surprised fans with his musical ability by releasing his his first ever song ahead of his new film 'Carmen'.

The 27-year-old Maynooth actor first shot to fame for his role as Connell in Normal People, and he is next set to appear onscreen in the musical drama 'Carmen' alongside actress Melissa Barrera. The film is a modern day re-telling of the classic opera of the same name by George Bizet also starring Scream 6 final girl Melissa Barrera, and Paul Mescal plays the role of Aidan, a soldier with PTSD.

So far the music video has over 70,000 views on YouTube and 8,000 listens on Spotify. Paul's fans were delighted to see the actor's new music video, praising him for his "natural" musical ability.

One fan commented: "His voice is so gentle and pretty, definitely better than most actors in modern movie musicals! Way to go Paul!"

Another commented: "A man of many talents. He's an absolute natural here." A third joked: "It should be illegal to be this good, he sings and he acts. Legend."

It's not the first time Paul has shown off his singing chops, as he previously joined Dermot Kennedy onstage in London during lockdown singing his hit song Giants. Musical talent also seems to run in the Mescal family, as Paul's younger sister Phoebe is also a singer and she has been added to this year's Electric Picnic line-up.

Paul also recently picked up an Olivier award for his role in drama A Streetcar Named Desire. He is next to star in a leading role in Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2.
