She told her followers on Instagram: “It has been a memory I will cherish for so so long. I am so grateful.”
Leading up the big night Paul himself said: "It's a dream to bring your mum to the Oscars!"
Speaking to Variety Magazine at the Los Angeles theatre on Sunday night, Dearbhla, who works for An Garda Síochána said: "This is just an incredible moment and it's real. It's actually not fantasy, it is real."
When asked what her reaction was when Paul first said he wanted to become an actor, the all-smiling Dearbhla, who first discovered she was sick last July, said she simply "trusted him."
"He knew what he wanted to do and we said let's go with it," she added.
