Paul Mescal's mum Dearbhla taking it 'day by day' as she shares update from hospital

Paul Mescal's mother Dearbhla has returned to hospital to receive further cancer treatment.

In a series of posts on Instagram, she told her followers that she's "ready for more" and is taking the process "day by day", RSVP Live reports. Dearbhla has been diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer called multiple myeloma.

She said that she was back in hospital for further chemotherapy and thanked everyone for the support they have shown her.

"I suppose this is my first day," she said candidly. "They don't call it first day -- the first day is actually the day you get your stem cells back... but we're not going to worry about those things."

"I slept pretty okay. I have had my PICC line (Peripherally inserted central catheter) put in. That is going to give me the start of the chemo this afternoon and it will also feed me if I get too ill or if I need further pain meds."

She went on to praise the work done by doctors and healthcare staff who are looking after her.

"Other than that, people who work in this field are just wonderful."

"I am still sort of assessing the place I’m in, and also the place I am in -- so the physical and the mental -- right now. I haven’t put the TV on yet, I haven’t put on my music yet. I am literally sitting in the quiet... it just really is day by day."

She added that her chemo was delivered with "such care" and "such attention" and "beautiful kindness."

Dearbhla previously said her illness has made her learn so much about “who I am on this planet” and “where I want to go in my life after all of this."

Earlier this month, the Mescal family gathered together at the Academy Awards, when Maynooth native Paul was nominated for Best Actor, and get together on the red carpet at the BAFTAs.
