Dearbhla, the mother of Normal People star Paul Mescal, celebrated her retirement from An Garda Síochána after 30 years.
The Maynooth mother stated that she hopes other workers within the gardaí understand the value of their work, despite there being "little thanks", RSVP Live reported.
She recently had cancer treatment for multiple myeloma, and after marking her retirement, she said that she will be concentrating her time and energy on healing, adventures and living.

"My life has another change today … I retire from An Garda Síochána after 30 years," she wrote.
"I was 20 when I joined and I retire at 54… a whole life time. It has been my honour to serve, to have worked with the members I did throughout my career. I think to be of service was the joy of my working life."
She stressed that the work done in An Garda Síochána matters to colleagues and the wider community.
"I wish for them and those they hold dear the very best in the future. As for me? Well maybe IT TRULY IS my time. Time for healing, for adventures, for living," the mother-of-three said.
She said this time in her life reminds her of Walk Slowly by the poet Danna Faulds …. ‘and I remember again that life isn’t a relay race; that we will all cross the finish line; that waking up to life is what we were born for," she said.
She added: "As many times as I forget, catch myself charging forward without even knowing where I’m going, that many times I can make the choice to stop, to breathe, and be, and walk slowly into the mystery.'"
Her post included a blast from the past, showing her graduate from garda college three decades ago.
People have been applauding her milestone retirement after a long career serving the public.
Her daughter Nell Mescal, a musician fast-growing in popularity, revealed this week that she will be supporting Dermot Kennedy next month at his Marlay Park concert.
