Paul Mescal has revealed he was only wearing “sweaty underwear” when he first met Hollywood A-lister Nicole Kidman.
The Kildare actor, who was Oscar-nominated for his role in Aftersun, described the encounter on US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Paul, 27, described the “undignified” moment he met The Others star Nicole, 55, backstage in London.
She paid a surprise visit to the Maynooth man's dressing room following a stage performance of A Streetcar Named Desire. Paul, whose role in Normal People sparked a trend for GAA shorts, said: “We thought it was the stage manager or something and I go to open the door.

“It’s Nicole Kidman and I’m standing there in, like, sweaty underwear.” He assured the Aussie star saw the funny side and wasn’t fazed by his attire as she chatted with the cast.
He added: “You’d think the next smart step is [to] put on some trousers.” But he explained how he didn’t want to stop the conversation to put on pants.
He conceded there was something “incredibly undignified” about being “bent over” [to put on trousers]. Paul said: “It’s not a look you want to be caught in”, admitting that he even hugged Nicole goodbye, still in his underwear.”
