Paul Merson tells Graham Potter how to turn Chelsea fortunes around with one major change

Chelsea eased the pressure on Graham Potter on Saturday with a much-needed 1-0 win over Leeds. Wesley Fofana's second-half header handed the Blues a valuable three points after going six games without a win.

Potter found himself faced with severe pressure from supporters after last week's London derby defeat to Tottenham. The loss was the Blues ninth Premier League defeat of the season.

Whilst scoring has been one of Chelsea's most colossal issues this season - they have fewest goals of the Premier League top 11 - keeping the goals out at the other end have also been a problem. Keeping Leeds at bay was their 10th clean sheet under Potter, their first since the start of February.

football.london understands that the Englishman retains the support of the ownership at SW6, despite the poor run of form. Todd Boehly is sticking with Potter to come good before the end of the season but there remains plenty of work to do.

Talk of possible replacements have surfaced over the course of the past week, but Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has urged Potter to consider implementing John Terry to his coaching staff. The former Chelsea captain is currently working with the club's Under-21s after ending his playing career in 2018.

"For me, I'd get John Terry involved now," Merson said before the Leeds win. "John Terry's at the club, get him on the bench, get in there, get someone who's been there before, played the game and done it.

"And start volleying people around! He's too nice. It's too nice."

Terry recently went on record to reject claims that he played a part in Potter's appointment as Thomas Tuchel's replacement. Prior to the 47-year-old's move from Brighton, Terry tweeted: "How good is Graham Potter?

"I love how Brighton play and he has to be one of the best young managers around. Ticks every box for me.”

After being quizzed by a supporter over his role in Potter's arrival, Terry refuted the claim on Twitter. "Absolutely not. I tweeted that I loved watching Brighton play and his style of play.

"I have nothing to do with the first team. I'm working with the [Under] 18s and 21s and love my role."
