Paul Merson sends blunt Yves Bissouma transfer message to Liverpool after Tottenham move

Paul Merson believes Liverpool should have signed Yves Bissouma before he joined Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds were quick with their summer transfer business, signing Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsey before mid-June. With their business now seemingly done, it seems that the wait for a central midfielder will have to wait for another 12 months. The ECHO understands that Jude Bellingham is a player the Reds admire, but Borussia Dortmund have reportedly slapped a £103million price tag on his head.

After impressing for Brighton and Hove Albion, Bissouma was snapped up by Spurs for £25million. For that price, former England midfielder Merson has said that the Mali international star 'could play' in the Reds midfield even with the likes of Thiago, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson available in the upcoming season.

“This is an unbelievable coup for Spurs as Yves Bissouma could have played for any of the other top-six sides in the Premier League," Merson told Sports Keeda. "I look at Liverpool’s midfield and feel he could play for them. £25m in this day and age – it’s nothing. Spurs have nabbed an absolute bargain.”

Recent speculation has linked Inter Milan's Nicolo Barella with a spectacular summer move to Anfield, while RB Salzburg's Luka Sucic could be an option and Jurgen Klopp will have a first-hand look at the Croatian during pre-season when Liverpool meet the Austrian side on July 27 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg.
