Paul Merson makes 'atrocious' Nottingham Forest claim in Liverpool prediction

Paul Merson fears that Nottingham Forest’s trip to Liverpool is simply a "foregone conclusion".

Steve Cooper's side head to Anfield this weekend as they look to put an end to their dismal run of form and record only their second away win of the season. Forest have picked up just three points from their last 10 games to leave the club sitting in the bottom three on goal difference.

The Reds will be hoping for a repeat of the two sides’ last meeting, where a Taiwo Awoniyi goal led to a memorable victory at the City Ground in October. However, Liverpool will be in high spirits after recording a resounding 6-1 win at Leeds on Monday and Merson is expecting Jurgen Klopp’s side to continue in a similar vein against Forest.

“What scoreline do you want? This game is nearly a foregone conclusion, because Nottingham Forest are atrocious away from home. I love the Premier League because there are no easy games, but this is as close as it gets,” Merson told Sportskeeda, predicting a 4-0 defeat for Forest

Liverpool are chasing a European spot after a frustrating season for the usual title contenders. The returning Diogo Jota scored a brace for Jurgen Klopp’s side against Leeds, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has thrived in a new role, and Merson expects Forest to experience another tough day on the road.

"Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best passer of the ball in England," he added. "He can spray the ball all over the pitch, and he can put it on a six-pence. He doesn't play safe passes and will rip it up against lesser teams, but I don't know if it'll work against the big guns. His passing is second to none at Liverpool and I like what he's trying - it's very expansive.

“Diogo Jota chipped in with a very well-taken brace last week. Liverpool have suffered a lot of injuries, but all their players are coming back now. The way they pressed last week, Liverpool look like they've got the bit between their teeth again. I don't see anything but a Liverpool victory in this fixture.”
