Paul Merson and Chris Sutton disagree over Leicester City v Liverpool prediction

Pundits Paul Merson and Chris Sutton have shared differing views on the outcome of Liverpool's match against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

The Reds come into the game off the back of six Premier League wins on the bounce. It is a run of form that has seen them keep their Champions League hopes alive

Leicester, on the other hand, dropped to 19th after slumping to a 5-3 defeat at Fulham on Saturday last weekend. However, they will climb out of the bottom three with victory over Liverpool.

Given the differences in form between the teams, that would appear unlikely. However, Arsenal legend Paul Merson has backed the Foxes to take all three points with a 2-1 win.

“This is a great opportunity for Leicester City to move towards surviving relegation,” he told SportsKeeda.

“Liverpool are playing for a Champions League berth but they are not really ripping it up despite getting several wins under their belt in recent weeks. They are not exactly destroying teams and I think Leicester have a chance here. But the Foxes can’t defend like they have in recent weeks. There is no point in drawing this game. They have got to win this one.

“The pressure will be on Liverpool and Leicester have everything to play for. This could be a season-defining game for Leicester. If they don’t win it, I think they’re going to get relegated.”

But Chris Sutton disagrees with his fellow pundit. The former Premier League title winner with Blackburn Rovers has backed the Reds to make it seven triumphs on the trot with a 3-1 victory.

“Leicester midfielder James Maddison criticised his team's performance after their defeat by Fulham on Monday. I get that, but he hasn't been decisive enough himself at times, like his penalty which was saved against Everton recently,” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“The Foxes really need to start doing their talking on the pitch, but I think they are in for a tough night against a Liverpool side who have won six games in a row and have their eyes firmly on a Champions League spot.

“Liverpool are just relentless at the moment, and Leicester leak a lot of goals whoever they play because their defence is so bad. It should be an entertaining game because both teams are much better when they come forward, and I also think Dean Smith's side will score - but Liverpool will score more, and I can only see one outcome.”
