The nation is in a period of mourning following the death of the Queen.
In her role as monarch, Queen Elizabeth would regularly meet with high profile sportspeople, celebrities and musicians. One musician that had the pleasure of meeting the Queen on several occasions was Paul McCartney.
Macca first had an audience with the Queen in 1965, when he, along with his Beatles bandmates, were invited to Buckingham Palace and awarded with MBEs. Recalling the experience on social media, McCartney joked: "I remember us being taken aside and shown what the correct protocol was.

"We were told how to approach Her Majesty and not to talk to her unless she talks to us. For four Liverpool lads, it was, “Wow, hey man.”"
The pair would meet again on December 13 1982, at the Royal Albert Hall. In a conversation with Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh said he remembered McCartney from their meeting in the 60s.
The next meeting would come when Her Majesty visited Liverpool in 1996, to open the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA). McCartney added: "The Queen graciously agreed to open the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts on the site of my old school that George Harrison and myself attended. She also had previously given a donation which the school was very honoured to receive."
Following Macca's knighting in 1997, he would share a laugh with Her Majesty during her Golden Jubilee. He recalled: "e got to rock out in her garden. As Her Majesty was on stage receiving applause at the end of the show I joked, ‘Well I suppose this will be happening next year then?’ to which she replied, ‘Not in my garden it won’t!’"
Their final meeting would come in 2018, where McCartney would share a tongue-in-cheek joke with the Queen. He said: "Because of my respect and love for the Queen and her fabulous sense of humour when I was given the Companion of Honour medal I shook her hand, leaned in and said, ‘We have got to stop meeting like this,’ to which she giggled slightly and got on with the ceremony. I did wonder if I was a bit too cheeky after saying this, after all this was The Queen, but I have a feeling she didn’t mind."
