It'll be Happy Hour again and again and again when Housemartins and Beautiful South star Paul Heaton celebrates his 60th birthday.
The singer is marking today’s milestone by putting money behind the bar at 60 pubs.
Big-hearted Paul, who previously owned the King’s Arms in Salford, said his original plan was a bicycle tour, visiting and performing at 60 pubs across the UK and Ireland.
But he said that idea was shelved due to recording delays caused by the pandemic.
Paul added: “The next best way to celebrate this coming of age is to handpick 60 pubs across the UK and Ireland and put a given amount of money behind the bar of each.”
He's not said how much will go behind the bar at each pub, or at what particular time it will start.
The list of pubs includes the Bird I’th Hand in St Helens, home town of Paul’s The Beautiful South bandmate Jacqui Abbott.
The Caravan of Love star, who for 14 years played football for the now-closed Mainbrace pub in Hull, famously banned David Cameron from his own pub.
Paul was annoyed when, after Hull was named UK City of Culture, the ex-PM name-checked the Housemartins’ 1986 album London 0 Hull 4.
The down-to-earth star, of Withington, Greater Manchester, says the government snubbed his offer to donate The Beautiful South’s back catalogue profits to the nation’s coffers.
He recently played a free show for NHS workers at Nottingham Arena with Jacqui.
