After speculation linked him to the show last year, it has been confirmed that Paul Gascoigne will appear on new Channel 4 show Scared of the Dark, alongside other stars including Scarlett Moffatt and Chris Eubank.
Last summer, The Sun reported that the football legend would be taking part in the gruelling programme, with a source saying: "“This will be a real endurance challenge for Gazza - but that’s the whole point of the show."
The insider added: “During that time he’ll also have to complete a series of thought-provoking tasks in order to keep his place in the contest. Despite the scale of the challenge, Gazza passed all his assessments with flying colours and filming on the programme will start shortly.”
Further details of Scared of the Dark, which is set to air in the coming months, have been released by Channel 4, including the fact that EastEnders star Danny Dyer will host, following his dramatic departure from the BBC soap at Christmas. The identities of Gazza's fellow contestants have also been revealed, with I'm A Celebrity winner Scarlett, Olympic boxer and Strictly star Nicola Adams, The Wanted's Max George, Love Island star Chloe Burrows all involved.
They will be joined by boxing icon Chris, comedian Chris McCausland and actress Donna Preston for the show, which will see them enter a completely pitch-black reality space called The Bunker for eight days.
Over five successive nights the show will follow the celebrities as they get to grips with living in the dark. To prove their mettle, each of the celebrities will take on a series of challenges designed to test either their primal fear of total darkness or their ability to function in the pitch black. Those that fail at their challenges will have to take on tough tasks to save their place on the show.
And, if the experience gets too much for any of them, they just have to shout “I’m Scared of The Dark” and they are escorted into the light.
Gazza was last seen on TV when he sat in the Dancing on Ice audience to watch son Regan in action on the ITV show last year and, prior to that, the former Spurs and England star competed in the Italian version of I'm A Celebrity.
