New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Demario Douglas has high goals for the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. He doesn’t want to just show up for his first NFL game.
He wants to make a statement.
Buy Patriots TicketsDouglas caught two passes for 17 yards over the course of the preseason. However, he was given limited reps by the team and was considered a candidate to make the roster early on. Now, he will be unleashed and have the ability to show what he can do.
Douglas certainly has explosive playmaking ability. He had a tremendous final season at Liberty that saw him record 73 catches for 977 yards and six touchdowns. Now, he will look to energize a young group of wide receivers by becoming that same explosive player in the NFL.
He wants to make the statement that he can play at the professional level and is excited to do so, as he told the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callanan.
“I’m excited for my first regular-season game and to make a statement,” said Douglas. “I’m blessed to have this opportunity. …Really, I just want to go out there and play. I just want to have fun, I love this game.”
It will be interesting to see what Douglas does with his opportunity. His playmaking ability and athleticism are two of the things that stick out in his playing style.
A strong showing against a tough Eagles defense would be a statement, indeed.
