The New England Patriots aren’t taking any chances with their offensive line depth heading into 2023 free agency.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported early Thursday morning that the team had re-signed backup center James Ferentz to a one-year deal that included $200,000 in guaranteed money.
Ferentz stepped into the lineup after David Andrews went down with a concussion in 2022. Not long after Andrews returned, he went down again with a thigh injury. With the starting center turning 30 years old, it was obviously wise for the Patriots to make sure that their emergency option was on the roster for the upcoming 2023 NFL season.

The Patriots have now re-signed Ferentz, Matthew Slater and Conor McDermott ahead of free agency. There could be more moves to follow in the coming days before the market officially opens on March 15.
