Being the face of a franchise is new for Drake Maye, but the rookie quarterback is handling it like a longtime veteran. Instead of viewing his position as one filled with pressure, he views it more as a privilege.
“I wouldn’t call it pressure, I think it’s a privilege,” Maye told Steve Burton of Patriots All Access. “You work your whole life to get to this moment… once this moment comes I don’t think you should lose sight of the fact that this is what you dreamed about… I think having that pressure you turn it into a privilege and hopefully get this thing rolling.”
The returns have been solid so far from the 22-year-old signal-caller. He has tallied 1,696 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The former North Carolina standout is also proving to be effective on the ground by recording 38 carries for 345 yards and a touchdown on the season.
Maye is undoubtedly viewed as a franchise cornerstone player for New England.
His continued development over the final four games of the season will be fun to watch. He has given Patriots fans something to be excited about in a tough rebuilding year.
