Patriots lead Commanders 14-10 at halftime

The New England Patriots lead the Washington Commanders 14-10 at halftime.

The Commanders had a chance to score late in the second quarter, but quarterback Sam Howell, with a terrible decision to end the half, was intercepted in the end zone by Patriots safety Kyle Dugger.

Washington jumped out to a 10-0 lead and possessed the ball in the second quarter when running back Brian Robinson Jr. was stripped from behind, giving the Patriots the football at the 25-yard line. Three plays later, New England quarterback Mac Jones found tight end Hunter Henry for a touchdown.

After a Washington punt, Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson scores on a 64-yard run to give the Patriots a 14-10 lead. The Commanders had a chance to make life difficult for New England, but in just over 1:30 of game time, Washington gave a struggling offense life with two quick touchdowns.

Outside of that one throw, Howell was outstanding in the first half. Howell completed 19 of 28 passes for 176 yards with one interception. He also rushed for 27 yards on three attempts.

Robinson led the Commanders with eight carries for 38 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Byron Pringle has three receptions for 55 yards in the first half to lead Washington.

The Commanders also had issues with drops, as Jahan Dotson dropped one, and Dyami Brown dropped a touchdown on the same drive of Howell’s interception late in the second quarter.

The Patriots will begin the second half with the football.
