Patriots LB Josh Uche looking to reach new level in 2023

New England Patriots linebacker Josh Uche had a monster season in 2022, recording 11.5 sacks and playing a major role in New England’s pass-rushing attack.

His success last season led to some accolades along the way, including an AFC Defensive Player of the Week award following the game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14. He recorded three sacks on prime time television to help the Patriots get a 27-13 victory.

Uche is not resting on his laurels despite a productive 2022 campaign.

He spoke to reporters on Thursday and indicated his plans on continued improvement. New England will need him once again in a year where the team is expected to face some of the top offenses in the NFL.

They won’t have time to ease into the season, either, as they face the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. Uche understands there is more work to be done, as transcribed by NESN.com’s Dakota Randall.

“I just feel like if you get so big-headed on what you did in the past, you’re going to trip up trying to get where you want to go,” Uche said. “I try to leave that where it’s at and understand this is a new slate. This is a new season and there’s new opportunities. If I’m worried about the past, then I can’t capitalize on the future.”

New England will need Uche to play at a high level once again, if they have any hopes for success in 2023.
