The Jacksonville Jaguars won’t be getting JaMycal Hasty back on their practice squad.
Two days after the veteran running back was waived by the Jaguars to make room for cornerback Gregory Junior’s return from injured reserve, Hasty was claimed by the New England Patriots on Monday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.
With the Patriots sitting 2-8 on the year, the team is currently third in the waiver wire order. It’s unclear if New England was the only team to put in a claim for Hasty.
The Jaguars added Hasty off waivers in August 2022 after he was cut by the San Francisco 49ers at the end of preseason. In his first season with Jacksonville, he claimed to No. 2 on the depth chart when a trade sent James Robinson to the New York Jets.
Hasty finished 2022 with 194 rushing yards, 126 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. But when the Jaguars drafted Tank Bigsby and signed D’Ernest Johnson in the offseason, Hasty tumbled to the No. 4 option. He was a healthy scratch in five games this year and didn’t record a touch in the three games he played.
The Patriots have running backs Rhamondre Stevenson, Ezekiel Elliott, and Ty Montgomery on the roster. Stevenson exited the team’s Week 10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts with a back injury, but it’s not believed to be serious.
