The New England Patriots added to their linebacker corps on Monday by announcing the signing of former Navy standout Diego Fagot.
It has been a busy day with the Patriots looking to fill the last remaining spots on their 90-man roster. They also reportedly agreed to terms on a deal with former San Francisco 49ers receiver Jalen Hurd.
Fagot was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted rookie free agent last year, but he was ultimately released by the team before the start of the regular season.
So he has never officially taken an NFL snap.
But Patriots coach Bill Belichick clearly has a fondness for Navy athletes given his connections with the program as the son of former Navy assistant coach and scout, Steve Belichick.
Fagot closed out his collegiate career with 282 tackles, 9.5 sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 35.5 tackles for a loss. Now, he’ll have a second opportunity to try and get that success to translate at the next level.
