Patrick Williams stands up for Bulls teammate DeMar DeRozan

Recently, Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan has found himself in some headlines for an article written by Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report. In the piece, Hughes listed DeRozan as one of the “most overrated” players in the NBA, and of course, Bulls fans had plenty of opinions on the placement.

DeRozan is one of the league’s best mid-range shooters, but Hughes argued that his non-traditional approach (in today’s game) has yet to lead to winning results. Since DeRozan joined the team, the Bulls have won just one playoff game, and while injuries have definitely gotten in the way, the team’s results are definitely disappointing.

However, his teammates are always ready to stick up for him.

During a recent outing in Los Angeles, TMZ caught Bulls forward Patrick Williams on camera. He made sure to defend DeRozan when speaking to the paparazzi.

Williams said that DeRozan “doesn’t get half the credit he deserves,” and considering DeRozan has been an All-Star in each of his seasons in Chicago, Williams is right.

For as different as DeRozan’s game is in comparison to the rest of the league, he’s effective, and the fact that coaches voted him in as an All-Star this past season shows how much he’s respected.

Plus, Calling him overrated is a bit unfair, considering the team Chicago has put around him for the past two years. He shouldn’t be the sole thing being blamed for their failures.

DeRozan is an All-Star-caliber player and deserves to get talked about as such.
