Patrick Vieira admits that the likes of Wilfried Zaha were left frustrated during Crystal Palace’s goalless draw at Newcastle United.
Palace managed to come away from St James’ Park with a point but the Magpies will feel they should have claimed all three points after VAR disallowed a Tyrick Mitchell own goal for what was deemed to be a foul on Vicente Guaita in the build-up.
The Spanish goalkeeper was kept busy throughout, with saves to deny Aleksander Isak, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock ensuring Palace went home with at least a point.

At the other end, the visitors had chances to break the deadlock, with Jean-Phillipe Mateta and Odsonne Edouard forcing Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope into action. But Palace mostly struggled to create enough for the likes of Zaha to work with, admits Vieira.
The Palace boss said: “He [Zaha] was frustrated from the start to the end. I think when you play up front, I think there was a little frustration for JP [Mateta] and [Odsonne] Edouard when he came on because it was difficult to find them and we didn’t play well enough to find our front three. This was one of the reasons why Wilfried [Zaha] was frustrated.”
Zaha has had an impressive start to the season so far with four goals in five Premier League games, including a brace in a 3-1 win against Aston Villa. But Palace’s talisman struggled to make an impact at St James’ Park.
Vieira said: “It is not about the individual, it is about the collective. I think we need to reflect on how we didn’t play well enough to find him quicker. At the same time, yes he has to accept that under pressure it is always difficult to find our front players.”
