A “pancake,” also known as a “pancake block,” is an unofficial football statistic. It refers to a blocker knocking the opposing defender flat, like a pancake, down to the ground.
Baltimore Ravens fullback and Pro Bowler Pat Ricard has dished out quite a few pancakes on the gridiron throughout his career.
This past weekend, he provided pancakes, a breakfast food variety, in his hometown of Spencer, Massachusetts.
Ricard, who came to the Ravens as an undrafted free-agent defensive lineman before playing both ways and then converting to fullback, hosted the second Pancakes with Pat charity event on Saturday morning.
The event, which occurred at the Spencer Fire Department, provided flapjacks, butter, and maple syrup and also a chance to meet Ricard.
The family-friendly event also provided prizes that were raffled off to lucky children.
Ricard joins Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and Zay Flowers as Ravens players who have hosted charity events geared towards children in their respective hometown communities.
“This community is why I am who I am today,” said Ricard.
“My wife is from this area. All her friends and family are here. We have a home here. So I think it’s vital for me to show my face here because I can inspire the youth and anyone who knows my story.”
