As a Texas Tech legend, Patrick Mahomes’s legacy in Lubbock will forever give future TTU quarterbacks something to aspire to. And, while the Red Raiders have yet to find their next Mahomes, the Chiefs superstar already seems to be a fan of a player who’s hoping to fill that void.
Mahomes shared a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday shouting out the unbelievable Friday night performance of 2024 TTU commit Will Hammond, a senior quarterback at Hutto High School in Hutto, Texas.
Hammond’s Mahomes-esque outing against Liberty Hill saw the QB complete 36-of-58 passes for 719 (!) yards and four touchdowns while adding 88 rushing yards and six rushing TDs, a stat line that thoroughly impressed the reigning NFL and Super Bowl MVP.
“Go crazy then,” tweeted Mahomes at Hammond along with two cry-laughing emojis.

Coming off a junior season where he tallied 30 TD passes and nine rushing scores, Hammond already appears to be putting together an even better year in his farewell season.
As with every athlete, it remains to be seen how Hammond’s talent translates at the next level. But, if the budding signal-caller continues turning in electric games, it may not be the last time he receives an endorsement from Mahomes.
