Patrick Mahomes Once Again Works Around the NFL Rules and Appears in a Beer Commercial

1. You may recall that about a year ago, Patrick Mahomes starred in a Coors Light commercial without directly endorsing Coors Light.

The Chiefs superstar quarterback, like all NFL players, is not allowed to appear in commercials or advertisements drinking beer or directly endorsing a beer. NFL players were allowed to have their likeness appear in beer ads only beginning in 2019.

So last year, Mahomes appeared in the Coors Light commercial that was actually for a Coors (flash) light. Wink wink.

Now he’s back in another Coors Light commercial. But this one isn’t for Coors Light beer. This one is for a Coors Light bear.

Again, like the previous commercial from 2022, the spot acknowledges right at the top that Mahomes is not allowed to endorse beer and that he’s here to promote Coors bear.

We especially like the scene with Mahomes putting a paper bag over the bear’s head while on the beach since you’re not allowed to drink beer on the beach unless it’s concealed. Well done.

2. A brand-new SI Media With Jimmy Traina dropped this morning and this week's guest is Scott Van Pelt.

The popular SportsCenter anchor, who is also ESPN’s main golf host, shared his thoughts on the PGA-LIV merger and tried to give us as much insight as possible on what it all means despite the lack of information out there.

Van Pelt also revealed that he doesn’t plan to host SportsCenter for too much longer. When asked whether he’d be host in three years, he said, “Nah.”

3. I have no idea how I missed this ProFootballTalk report yesterday that claims one NFL player lost $8 million gambling last season, but I cannot wait for the full details to come out. Which sports was he betting on? How many bets did it take him to lose $8 million? Is he making so much money that losing $8 million isn’t that big of a deal? Did he get suckered in to betting parlays and teasers like the rest of us gambling schmucks?

4. Love this move by Nationals manager Dave Martinez. Not only is this a great lesson, but it’s also entertaining: When an umpire blows a call, come to your postgame press conference with photographic proof.

5. We love completely ridiculous, nonsensical, comical quotes, so Karl-Anthony Towns trying to say that what the Timberwolves did this past season was more special than what the Nuggets did, which, of course, was winning the NBA title.

Here’s what he said on a recent episode of The Pat Bev Podcast With Rone.

“It was more special what we did in Minnesota because we had like, what, a month and then we had training camp and it was like you better figure it all out right now, right now, and we really figured it out quick. Everyone including the media and everyone to buy-in to who we was. We had an image. We had a brand of basketball. When you came to Minnesota, we was in your neck of the woods, we knew how we was going to play. You know what you was going to get. You knew what you was going to see. You knew we was going to compete. We got that done quick. Think about it. They had … four years? … We got it done in four months.”

6. The Voice of the NBA, Mike Breen, was in the stands at Citi Field on Wednesday night for the Yankees-Mets game. Unfortunately for Breen, he had to deal with having an annoying fan in front of him. Fortunately for us, Breen did not hide his feelings about the fan.
