Patrick Mahomes displays ludicrous ability with trick shot throws in NFL practice

Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes wowed fans in attendance at training camp with a number of incredible throws ahead of the 2022 NFL season.

The star quarterback, who won the 2018 NFL MVP award, has been perhaps the central pillar behind the rise of the Chiefs in the last few years. Selected by the franchise in the first round of the 2017 draft, Mahomes forged an instant relationship with head coach Andy Reid and receiving duo Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill, who has since left for Miami.

The Chiefs have won the AFC West division title in each of the last six seasons while also making history as the first team to host the AFC Championship Game - the final hurdle before the Super Bowl - in each of the last four seasons. They have advanced to the showpiece match on two occasions, with Mahomes leading the Chiefs past the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.

The 26-year-old has been nothing short of a revelation since arriving in Kansas City, putting up 22,372 passing yards and 179 touchdowns across both the regular season and the playoffs. Mahomes also possesses the all-time best career record when it comes to quarterback rating with a score of 105.8.

Mahomes has an excellent skillset and his numbers are boosted by his ingenuity at the quarterback position. He is unimpeded by the limits other signal-callers face thanks to his remarkable skill - and the Chiefs star has become somewhat synonymous with both the ‘no-look pass’ and the ‘sidearm pass’ over the last few years.

He seems to be using the offseason to refine some new tricks, if his play in a Chiefs video posted is anything to go by. Mahomes is shown casually flicking the ball behind his back, and then uses his weaker left hand to whip the ball onto the crossbar from 30 yards away.

Obviously, doing such trick plays in practice is a very different beast to performing them on the field of play amid an NFL game. However, Mahomes seems best placed to be the man to actually pull it off in a match.

The Chiefs are looking to return to the Super Bowl for the first time since their defeat to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. Kansas City were hoping to become the first franchise since Brady's New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005 to retain the championship, but were ultimately defeated.

Regardless, the Chiefs have maintained a stranglehold on the AFC throughout the rise of Mahomes. Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals needed overtime to defeat the Chiefs at Arrowhead in the conference title game, only for the Los Angeles Rams to come out on top in the blockbuster match back in February as Matthew Stafford led the Rams to their second championship.
