Patrick Mahomes breaks Chiefs’ all-time passing yards record

Patrick Mahomes broke a Kansas City Chiefs record on Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens in the opening game of the NFL’s 2024 regular season. With a 23-yard pass to Travis Kelce in the second quarter, Mahomes passed legendary quarterback Len Dawson to earn the top spot on the franchise leaderboard.

Heading into Thursday’s game, Mahomes needed just 84 yards to pass Dawson, and as the three-time Super Bowl champion’s legend grows, this latest record is among the most impressive of his career.

Though the outcome of Kansas City’s matchup against Baltimore is still being decided at the time of writing, Arrowhead Stadium erupted in cheers when Mahomes broke Dawson’s record, and the Chiefs had a lead when the play occurred.

Check out this video of the play that set the record, which was posted to Twitter by the NFL’s official account:

Expect to see Mahomes continue breaking records this season as Kansas City attempts to complete the NFL’s first-ever Super Bowl three-peat.
