Patrick Mahomes becomes NFL MVP favorite after Jalen Hurts’ shoulder injury

The landscape of the NFL is ever-changing. All it takes is for an injury, one big win or a single bad loss to change a team’s position in the standings and the public’s perception of them.

Such is the case in betting, where sportsbooks will have an individual’s or team’s odds moving up or down in the blink of an eye. They’ll even tip off bettors every now and again.

But, regardless of who had the news first, the cat is now out of the bag — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered a shoulder injury in Week 15 against the Chicago Bears, which may potentially have an impact on his availability going forward.

As a result of the injury, his MVP odds have changed in a big way.

Patrick Mahomes has taken over Hurts’ spot as the odds-on favorite to win MVP. His 2022 season has been nothing short of exceptional. He leads the league in passing yards per game (321.1) and total touchdown passes (35).

However, most would tell you that Hurts is the league’s MVP up to this point of the season. He’s led his team to the best record in the NFL (13-1) and has put forth video game-like performances as a passer and runner.

So seeing his odds drop from the best to clear-second should intrigue bettors’  if Hurts can get back on the field soon and continue producing as he has all season — something that could happen as early as this week.

Take the risk and buy the dip at +450? Or, see the odds move one way or the other as we get closer to game day?

The choice is yours.
