Patrick Beverley is one of the most quotable players in the NBA.
The extroverted guard hosts a popular podcast and is unafraid to share his opinions in the media—whether he’s bashing Chris Paul or teasing LeBron James.
So it should come as no surprise that he was one of the first players to weigh in humorously after the news of the blockbuster Kevin Durant trade broke early Thursday morning.
Shortly after The Athletic’s Shams Charania and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski simultaneously broke the Durant trade news at 1:05 a.m. ET, Beverley cleverly tweeted about the rival newsbreakers.
“I see Woj been in the gym. He giving Shams trouble this year,” Beverley posted.
Beverley presumably went to sleep Wednesday night thinking about a reunion with former Timberwolves teammate D’Angelo Russell, whom the Lakers acquired in a three-team deal earlier in the evening.
Alas, life in the NBA comes at you fast.
It was only a matter of hours before Charania and Wojnarowski were simultaneously tweeting the news that Beverley had been traded to Orlando for center Mo Bamba.
While the Lakers have their sights set on a run at the postseason, Beverley joins a youthful Magic squad that is unlikely to reach the playoffs.
At least he got a chance to witness history up close when James became the NBA’s all-time scoring leader Tuesday.
