As one of the NBA’s top rising stars, Anthony Edwards has continued to reach new heights this summer, with the Timberwolves guard’s dominant play leading Team USA at the FIBA World Cup. And, with Edwards’ platform set to grow in the coming years, ex-teammate Patrick Beverley believes his days in Minnesota may be numbered.
Appearing on a recent episode of Gil’s Arena, Beverley, who played with Edwards in the 2021–22 season, offered his latest hot take after the conversation turned to Edwards. During the chat, Beverley was asked by former NBA player and guest panelist Brandon Jennings if Edwards “needs to get out of Minnesota?”
Never one to pass up on a chance to be blunt, Beverley predicted the 2023 All-Star will not only eventually leave the Timberwolves, but his game also has a chance to make an impact in more ways than one.
“He will get out of Minnesota,” Beverley said. “I mean, that’s just what happens. And, that’s no disrespect to Minnesota. It’s just, with that personality, he can change the world with basketball.”
As Beverley alluded to, players of Edwards’s caliber have rarely thrived for their entire careers in Minnesota, with the 2020 No. 2 pick only the third of the club’s 12 top-five picks to earn an All-Star nod with the team.
Beverley then took his point a step further by, expectedly, declaring that Edwards needs to play in a bigger market given his talent.
“I played in Minnesota, it’s no diss on Minnesota, no diss on little market teams,” he continued. “But, he is the type of player that, you need to see him, you need to see him. And there’s no way Minnesota should have nine, 10 [national] TV games right now.”

While Beverley’s perspective may not sit well with T-Wolves fans, it remains to be seen how Edwards, who agreed to a five-year max extension in July, actually chooses to handle his career down the line.
