Patna: Entry to Gandhi Maidan banned for Independence Day preparations

PATNA: Public entry to the sprawling Gandhi Maidan has been banned for preparations of the Independence Day celebrations. The ban also included morning walk on the ground and it would be in effect till August 15, said DM Chandrashekhar Singh on Monday.

The rehearsal of different security forces, slated to participate in the ceremonial parade, will begin from Tuesday. "For the first time, prohibition guards will also take part in the I-Day function and join the rehearsal for the celebrations. A company of about 51 excise department jawans will be part of the ceremonial event,” said Singh.

The DM said restrictions in view of the rise in Covid-19 cases would also be in place and entry of children would not be allowed during the function. Also, limited number of tableaux by different departments will be displayed there.

He said all the departments, including electricity, building construction, health, and Patna Municipal Corporation, have been directed to spruce up the ground for the event and make necessary arrangements. The officers concerned have also been asked to discharge their responsibilities effectively with no scope of lapses, the DM added.
