Patna boy Arudeep Kumar gets 100 percentile

PATNA: Patna's Arudeep Kumar is among the 24 candidates across the country and the only one from Bihar to score perfect 100 percentile in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main session 2, the results of which were announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday. The boy has scored 290 out of 300 marks and secured All India Rank 12.

Born to Deepak Kumar Jha, chief engineer at Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited and Kumari Anamika, Arudeep wishes to pursue computer science and engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay. "My preference is to get admission in IIT-Bombay and for that, I am completely focusing on JEE (Advanced) exam. I am interested in computer science and would like to pursue further studies and research in this field," he said.

Achieving this feat was not easy for the boy after his Class XII board exams. In his first attempt, he got 99.94 percentile, but Arudeep was sure that he would do better in the second shot. He studied 12-14 hours a day for the JEE Main and also attended online coaching classes. He dedicated most of his time in self-study and also managed time for extra-curricular activities like badminton and chess.

Arudeep passed Class X from St Michael's High School (SMHS) by securing 95.2% and scored 95.2% in Class XII from Adarsh School. His younger brother Arvdeep Kumar is studying in Class V at St Michael's High School.

Arudeep started preparing for engineering entrance exam soon after his Class X and attended online coaching classes in view of Covid-19 pandemic. For JEE Main, he relies on NCERT books for physics and chemistry and solved previous years' papers.

His father Deepak, a resident of Patel Nagar, is more than happy with the achievement of his son. "I am confident that he will do well in JEE (Advanced)," Deepak told TOI.

Meanwhile, in state-wise topper in female category, Ankita Mishra emerged as state topper with 99.97 percentile while Abhay Singh has secured AIR 4 in PwD category with 99.82 percentile.
