Patna: All nursing students of GNM Institute evicted from hostels

PATNA: All 180 nursing students of GNM Institute of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) were evicted from their hostels with the help of district administration on Friday.

The PMCH administration had asked the nursing students to vacate their hostels within 24 hours for creating troubles on the hospital campus and blocking entry of patients and doctors on May 4 to protest shifting of the GNM Institute to Vaishali.

Even after the expiry of the deadline, many nursing students had not vacated the hostels and continued to stage dharna.

Taking it as an act of indiscipline, PMCH superintendent Dr I S Thakur on Friday served show-cause notices on all the nursing students of the institute.

Those staging dharna said the shifting of GNM Institute to Rajapakar in Vaishali would create several problems for them as the district hospital did not have the medical facilities like PMCH for supporting clinical training as part of their academic curriculum.

However, Dr Thakur said on the basis of video recording of the May 4 incident, all the nursing students were held guilty and hence served notices.

It was around 6.30pm that the team of district administration headed by an ADM completed the eviction, confirmed the superintendent.
