The University Hospital of Wales ' accident and emergency department is overcrowded, "visibly dirty" and poorly maintained, a new inspection has found.
Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) visited the Cardiff-based emergency unit and assessment unit between June 20 and 22 and found a series of failings, meaning the safety and dignity of patients cannot be guaranteed.
One of the complaints was that there was insufficient seating for the amount of people attending the emergency unit.
