Two arrested after 'disturbance' sees police cordon off area in The Avenue, Seaham

Two men have been arrested in connection with a "disturbance" in the Avenue, Seaham which left them both requiring medical treatment.

The men are aged 18 and 19. Police are now appealing for help with their investigation.

Police were called at 3.25pm, and alerted the ambulance service who then attended the scene. Parts of the Avenue have been closed while officers from Durham Constabulary have been carrying out enquiries. The police said they expected the road to fully reopen later on Saturday evening.

In a statement, Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called just after 3.25pm today following reports of a disturbance on The Avenue, in Seaham, involving two males.

"Both males, who are aged 18 and 19, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are receiving medical treatment. Part of The Avenue has been closed while officers carry out their enquiries. It is expected to reopen later this evening.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 238 of October 8."

Earlier on Saturday, a North East Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed that paramedics had attended the scene and taking one individual to hospital following treatment. It is not known whether the second man was hospitalised at this stage.

Clothes could be seen strewn across the ground within the police cordon. North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that one paramedic crew attended, and treated an unidentified patient at the scene before transferring them to hospital.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We got a call from the police at 3.30pm this afternoon to alert us to an incident in the Avenue in Seaham. We sent one paramedic crew which treated a patient with head and hand injuries before taking the patient to hospital."
