Patient dies of rare rat-born Lassa fever as UK confirms third case and Ireland's HPSC issues advice

The UK has confirmed its first death linked to the rare rat-born Lassa fever after a third case was confirmed.

Lassa fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic illness caused by Lassa virus - and is similar to Ebola.

Health officials announced the discovery of two cases on Wednesday, for the first time in over a decade.
