Patient dies at Delhi hospital after ceiling fan incident

  • A 42-year-old patient, Md Akbar, died at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in New Delhi, India after a ceiling fan fell on him while he was receiving treatment.
  • Mr Akbar had been admitted to the emergency ward for hypertension, meningoencephalitis, and aspiration pneumonia.
  • The incident occurred in the presence of hospital staff, and a nursing officer attending to him also sustained injuries.
  • He died less than three hours after the fan fell, with his death certificate listing his pre-existing conditions as the cause of death.
  • Mr Akbar's family protested the quality of treatment and the circumstances surrounding his death, but the hospital has not yet issued a statement.
