Before becoming the Patagonia founder who walked away from a $3 billion company, Yvon Chouinard lived on just $1 a day, slept in his car, and survived by eating dented cans of cat food because they were cheap. Decades later, after building one of the world's most successful outdoor brands, he made headlines again by giving away Patagonia. He did not give away the company to his family or shareholders, but ensured its profits would help fight climate change and protect the planet.
