Pat Surtain sticks up for Arch Manning after QB’s spring game performance

Arch Manning hasn’t even played a single down in college football yet, but some fans and pundits are already declaring him overrated.

The 17-year-old Texas prospect looked like a freshman quarterback at the Orange-White spring game last week, prompting Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian to declare Quinn Ewers the school’s starting QB in 2023.

After one fan tweeted that Manning is the most overrated football player “of any level,” Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain came to the young QB’s defense on Twitter.

“Y’all Folks Crazy… it’s easy to criticize watching through a screen smh !” Surtain tweeted. “He didn’t even play his first snap of real football yet lol.”

The MMQB’s Albert Breer correctly pointed out that Manning’s high school class hasn’t even graduated yet, but scrutiny is to be expected for a Manning quarterback.

Arch, the son of Cooper Manning, is the grandson of Archie Manning and the nephew of Super Bowl-winning QBs Peyton and Eli. He broke school passing records that were previously held by his uncles at Isidore Newman in Louisiana during his high school career from 2019-2022.

Arch is now set to be a freshman at Texas this fall.
