Passengers fume at First Bus 'ridiculous' ticket price increase

First Bus has introduced an overhaul to its ticketing system for public transport in the region, but Bristolians are far from happy.

Despite the introduction of two-trip tickets, day trip bundles and cheaper local tickets for specific areas across the region, some ticket prices have increased dramatically.

People have been unleashing their anger at these "ridiculous changes" which has put some locals off using public transport.

The cost of a day ticket in Bristol has increased from £4.50 to £5.30, an increase of nearly 18 per cent.

Similarly prices for weekly, monthly and family rider tickets all have all increased despite the changes aimed at making public transport more valuable.

The new two-trip ticket introduced by First is very similar to the previously scrapped return ticket, except your second trip doesn't need to be on the same service.

However, despite it being cheaper than two single tickets, it's priced at £4.30, just 20p cheaper than the day ticket price before the changes were enforced.

This is just one of many changes that have left residents across the Bristol region fuming on the Bristol Live Facebook page.

Lee Palmer shared his thoughts on the new prices and said: "Approx 20 per cent price rises, with service getting worse, this simply is not acceptable."

Faye Nichols similarly agreed and said: "Far too expensive and a terrible service."

John Smith added: "Yet another reason for me to not bother using buses..." while Sandra Laffan said: "Just need the buses to turn up now."

One resident Maxine Havens called the changes "ridiculous" and added that he "will not use my car."

Meg Coslett expressed her anger and said: "£10.60 for a family rider now is disgusting."

Not everyone is angry though with Pauline M Allen saying: "This will make life easier for people visiting Bristol."

First Bus said the new bundles were designed to make trips more valuable for users across the region and said single fares are being frozen or reduced to make public transport as good value as possible.
