A man was stopped at a New York City airport after TSA agents discovered an inert grenade in his carry-on luggage, which he claimed was a souvenir gift from a museum.

On Monday, December 11, TSA agents identified the grenade during routine screening at LaGuardia Airport and confirmed it was a real, yet inert, device incapable of exploding, according to NBC DFW.

"The @TSA team at @LGAairport removed this grenade from a traveler's checked bag on Monday. Yes, it's a real grenade. Fortunately it was inert," Lisa Farbstein, TSA Spokesperson, wrote on X.

Port Authority Police and TSA explosives experts responded but determined that no charges would be filed as the item posed no immediate danger.

The passenger voluntarily surrendered the grenade, which will now be repurposed for TSA training.

The passenger was allowed to continue on his flight after the incident was resolved, though the TSA has reiterated the importance of adhering to its strict guidelines regarding prohibited items.
