Pascal Jansen holds lingering Celtic admiration as next boss wildcard delivers giddy verdict on Parkhead fans

AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen is reportedly on the shortlist for the Celtic job - and he holds a long-term admiration of the Parkhead faithful.

The Scottish Premiership champions are on on the lookout for their next boss after Ange Postecoglou left the club for Tottenham with Enzo Maresca and Brendan Rodgers the current frontrunner for the hot seat. A host of names have been thrown into the running from Bodo/Glimt Kjetil Knutsen to Kieran McKenna at Ipswich but Pascal Jansen has emerged a surprise contender. The Dutch boss has spent three years at AZ and has earned praise for his attacking style of play.

The London-born boss took the clubt o fourth in the Eredivisie this season, and went down narrowly to eventual winners West Ham in the Europa Conference League semi-finals. The 50-year-old has long expressed his dream of managing in the Premier League - but has previously admitted he was impressed by Celtic.

The boss faced off against the Hoops during the Europa League playoff round clash with Celtic, and before returning to Scotland to face Dundee United last year in the Conference League qualifiers he was full of praise for the Celtic Park cauldron. He said: “I was born in London.

“So I am very fond of British football. It’s great to be back. We played Celtic last season in a qualifier. I enjoyed that, and hopefully, I will enjoy my time in Dundee too.

“I learned a lot from the Celtic game last season. We still have some players in the squad who were part of that game.

“We learned a lot from it, it was something else – the stadium was packed, you couldn’t hear yourself speak. We enjoyed competing with one of the top teams in Scotland. The game was intense, as British football is in general."
