Word of mouth is the best referral, even in this day and age of social media. So when I heard that Zuma Bangkok is serving the best food yet, I had to try it. The modern Japanese izakaya at the St. Regis Bangkok on Ratchadamri Road, has always been fun, be it night or day.
To bring back the fun into our lives, Zuma has brought back the "Yashoku Party Night Brunch" on Saturdays. First started in Zuma Hong Kong, the Japanese tradition is designed to unwind from the week and kick off the weekend in style with good food, drinks and good times with friends.
Available every Saturday night, Yashoku, which means midnight snack in Japanese, offers a buffet-style menu, served at the table, along with three free-flow drinks options for revellers, served in three rounds of two hours each: from 8.30-10.30pm, 9.00-11.00pm and 9.30-11.30pm.
The menu includes izakaya favourites with snacky dishes such as Spicy beef tartare with sweet potato chips and Seared salmon with lime. However, a dish that needs to be ordered more than once if not twice (it is a buffet!) is the Sliced sea bass with yuzu truffle dressing. Washed down with some sake and it's already a great night! The Black cod and prawn gyoza were good.
There are four types of maki on offer and a choice of sashimi. Signature mains include Black tiger prawns and vegetables tempura, Pork belly skewers and Miso-marinated black cod wrapped in hoba leaf. Though it's worth paying B600 more for the Spicy beef tenderloin with sesame, red chilli and sweet soy sauce. Please leave room for dessert!
If you're not feeling peckish at this hour and are just thirsty (you know what we mean), go for the drinks-only package at B1,600 per person for cocktails, wine and beer. The food and drinks package is priced at B2,600 per person with free-flow Bottega prosecco, wine and beer, and the food and drinks package priced at B3,600 per person offers Bollinger Cuvee Champagne, sake, Japanese whiskey, wine and beer. A variety of spirits, prosecco and Champagne is also available with a special price after 10pm to let partygoers enjoy the night.
Partygoers can dance the night away to Zuma's stellar sounds, with a resident DJ and guest performers until late.
If you're more of a lazy Sunday eating person, opt for the 11am-3pm "longest brunch". The buffet offers a vast selection of light bites, kuchiyaki, sushi, sashimi, one main course from a choice of plenty and a dessert platter. The Signature package, which includes food and soft drinks, is priced at B2,180 per person, the Deluxe package is B3,180 per person, offering food, wine, beer and Bottega prosecco, while the Premium package is inclusive of free-flow Bollinger Cuvée Champagne and is priced at B4,180 per person.
